If You Need Help
If you are not given the credit by the lender and you believe the lender has acted unlawfully, you can request additional
help from the regulatory agency that supervises the lending institution. A list of some of these agencies is contained in
this site for your reference. If you need legal assistance, the law provides for certain remedies. If you were denied credit
because of unlawful discrimination and are able to prove it, courts may award actual damages and in some cases may impose
punitive damages against the lending institution. If a lawsuit alleging discrimination is successful, the court also may award court costs and legal fees.
